How to open an online store in Lithuania: 8 steps from idea to first order

A practical plan for opening an online store in Lithuania: business form, products, payments, delivery, legal pages and your first customers.

Today you can open an online store in a few days rather than months. What matters most is not technology but order: when you know what to do at each step, the store launches quickly and without unpleasant surprises. Here is the plan we recommend to first-time sellers.

1. Choose a business form

You can sell online regularly as a sole trader (individual activity), a small partnership (MB) or a private limited company (UAB). Many start with individual activity or an MB, but it is worth talking to an accountant about taxes and liability. This decides which details appear on your invoices and legal pages.

2. Make your first product list

You do not need the whole catalogue on day one. 20–50 products you actually have in stock are enough. For each product prepare:

  • a clear name that a buyer would type into Google;
  • 3–5 photos on a light background;
  • a description with dimensions, material and care instructions;
  • a price including VAT and the stock level.

If your products are already in a spreadsheet, you can upload them in one CSV file.

3. Connect payments

Lithuanian buyers mostly pay by bank link and card. Sign the contract with a payment provider (for example Paysera or OPAY) early, because the company check can take a few days. While you wait, you can offer bank transfer.

4. Set up delivery

Parcel lockers are the most popular delivery method in Lithuania. Decide which carriers you will offer, how much delivery costs and from what order total it is free. A simple rule works better than a complicated table.

Every online store needs terms of sale, a privacy policy and information about returns. Consumers have the right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days, so the returns process must be clear. Do not forget the cookie consent banner.

6. Take care of your domain and e-mail

Your own domain (for example yourstore.lt) builds trust and helps search engines. Order e-mails should be sent from your domain with correct DKIM records, otherwise they may end up in spam.

7. Test the whole purchase yourself

Before opening, buy at least one product yourself: with a card, with a parcel locker and with a discount code. Check that the confirmation e-mail and the invoice arrive, and that VAT and delivery are calculated correctly.

8. Attract your first customers

First orders usually come from existing followers and people you know. Announce the opening on social media, offer a first-order discount, and connect the Google product feed and the Meta pixel so you can measure advertising later.

In short

Business form, products, payments, delivery, legal pages, domain, a test purchase and the first customers. Mervio makes most of these steps simpler: payments, parcel lockers, invoices and legal page templates are already built in, and the admin has a guide for every step.
